10K barrier

I gave it my best shot yesterday at Pike’s Peek 10K to break the 40 minute barrier. Things were falling into places up until mile 3. I managed an even split of 6:24 for the first 3 miles, passing the 3rd mile marker in 19:05 After that my inferior training caught up to me. My legs felt extremely heavy, people kept passing me and I had no answers for it. The last half were a drag,  Perhaps I didn’t want it bad enough, even if I did, I didn’t have the training to put it into action.

In the end I managed a 6:43 overall pace with a time of 41:40 Which is ONE minute and 41 seconds off my goal.

It was a humbling experience. I will try again on May 7th at the Manassas Runway 10K. I have 3 weeks to train for it. I NEED this.
